Djursdala church
In May 1691 the old church was burnt to the ground, sadly an interesting wooden church from the Middle Ages, most probably of the same type as Pelarne, Tidersrum or Granhult, was lost. Before the church burned down some objects, for example, the altar screen, could be saved. The following year a new church was ready to be built. It was inaugurated on 30 September the same year. And it still stands today.
In 1695 the whole church disintegrated and in 1730 the new bell-frame was built. Between 1707 and 1708 the bare church, with its naked wooden walls, was painted. The paintwork was carried out by two master painters; Petter Wadsten and Zackarias Hake. The paintings cover both walls and the ceiling. The most expensive treasure in the church is the picture cabinet which adorns the altar which dates back to the Middle Ages.
