Childhood home
Astrid Lindgren's childhood home is the farm in Näs, Vimmerby, just a few stone throws away from the theme park Astrid Lindgren's World. Astrid Lindgren grew up in Näs and she has described many of the environments from her childhood in her books.
"Boa på Näs", is where the model for Emil's "snickerbo" can be found, and is now an art and crafts shop which Astrid's relatives own and run. They sell Astrid Lindgren's books where you can receive a unique stamp with a copy of Astrid Lindgren's signature. The home is open to the public for guided tours.
A visit here provides a unique experience of the environment which influenced Astrid Lindgren and everything she wrote.
Knowledge Centre and Museum
The old vicarage now houses a Knowledge Centre and a Museum dedicated to Astrid Lindgren and her life's work; an important complement to the facilities that already exist in Vimmerby. The museum in Näs, as well as having an exhibition about Astrid Lindgren and her achievements, also has information about the farm's long history and about the Ericsson family's position (Astrid Lindgren's maiden name was Ericsson) in the history of Vimmerby. The Knowledge Centre will become an important resource in the continued development of the region because of its unique competence.
The investment also means a co-ordination of resources in the form of collections and an archive which already exists within the municipality. Emphasis will be placed on the writer and word-painter Astrid Lindgren but also on Astrid Lindgren, the creator of public opinion, the democrat and lover of children.
In the garden you will find the large elm, the model for Pippi Longstocking's lemonade tree and in the beginning of June, the Astrid Lindgren Statue will be inaugurated.
Exhibition
In the newly built Astrid Lindgren Hall in Näs, a modern exhibition presents Astrid's life and achievements. This is something which will amuse and absorb you and provide you with new facts and information about one of the world's greatest authors. You can also watch a film and visit the new café.

This summer you can meet Pippi Longstocking, the way she looked
from the very beginning. Our Summer exhibition presents Ingrid Vang
Nyman, artist and children’s book illustrator - best known for her illustrations
in Astrid Lindgren’s books about Pippi and the Children of
Noisy Village. Besides a whole lot of delightful pictures with Pippi and
other characters, children and grownups alike would enjoy our, and
Pippi’s, enchanting playhouse.
